Fun Facts About the Florida Keys:  There are 42 bridges that connect the islands of the Florida Keys. The longest bridge is the 7-mile bridge which is 35,716 feet long.

The word "key" comes from the Spanish word, "cayo" which means "little island".  There are more than 800 Florida Keys.

This is one of those 800 islands.

Remnants  of the railroad built by Henry Flagler can be seen driving along US HWY 1.  The railroad ended when a portion of the line was destroyed in a 1935 hurricane. 

Wildlife is abundant in the keys.  We had a big surprise when having coffee outside the RV  one morning, we saw this green fellow running across the road.  Just after that I bumped into a 5 footer at the beach.  Thank goodness when he saw me, he ran the other way.   Although green iguanas  are not native to Florida, these stowaways are thriving here.  

We ran into this fella pumping diesel in Marathon.  Guess they are not only running loose in Key West.  

There is also lots of friendly feral cats running around.

Driving out to No Name Key we saw these Key Deers.  They live only in the Florida Keys and are endangered.  They are a subspecies of the white-tailed deer and are the smallest North American deer.  Really cute and not too shy.

On the way back you may want to stop for a cold one.

Tom said he has become an island man, wearing shorts for the first time since I have known him.


The trip is not complete without a selfie.

Second time we have seen a person riding a motorized ice cooler at an RV park.  This one is zipping all over the campground, and its fast.

Wauchula , last stop before the Keys

We are in in sunny, windy Wauchula.
 In our travels we found  that Wauchula had been called "Cucumber Capital of the World".  Citrus now has become a more important agricultural crop over the past few decades.

Also, Wauchula is derived from the Seminole name of Wauchula meaning "Call of the Sandhill Crain.  This is a fountain in the center of town.

This little fella was running around the porch digging nuts out of the planters.  They are so tame, the darn thing ran right up to us.

So you don't forget our blog.  Cecil also is now flying a Norwegian flag, Tom calls the rig the Norwegian Embassy.  I keep having to correct him.

The park has a lot of nice extra's, fresh vegetable and fruit vender, that comes in twice a week.  Pam had a lot of fun buying produce. 

And live entertainment was in on the weekend. 

And fun in the pool, and much more.

Date day at the Gulf of Mexico, enjoying the scenery and a fresh fish dinner.

Ran into this little fellow walking back from watching the Disney fireworks over the lake.  We were chasing him around trying to get a good picture.

Saw this Class A a few spots down.  Checked the Internet" In His Wake ".  Appeared to be a youth program.

We took a ride out to Cocoa Beach,  bueatiful day.  Very busy place.

Stopped at Ron Jon Surf Shop.  Had the best key lime pie at a little shop across the street from them.

If you looked down at the walkway in front of Ron Jon it made you dizzy.  Optical illusion,  looked very wavey. Shows a little in this picture.

Right across the street was Cocoa Beach Surf Company.   Fun time trying on hats there.

We liked the Cecil turtle on the RV so much, Christian the truck got a Tat too, on her tailgate.
