Heading To The Beach

Myrtle Beach Fun Facts

The runway at Myrtle Beach International Airport is 9503 feet long and is the 2nd busiest airport in the state.

There is a time capsule buried at Kings Highway and 9th Avenue North that is to be opened on December 18th, 2054, it was buried in 2004.

The country music group Alabama played for tips as the house band at The Bowery, downtown Myrtle Beach the summer of 1973.

Kings Highway was an indian trail long before european settlers arrived in the new world.  As the colonies  grew that indian trail became the main route between northern states and southern cities.

At one time, giant sand dunes came all the way up to where present-day Kings Highway passes.

On the way to Myrtle Beach stopped at Flying J/Pilot , they have the best coffee and you can't beat the price.

Arrived at Myrtle Beach, still unsure of the path of hurricane Maria, but right now its beach weather.
Wouldn't know a hurricane is 350 miles straight out in the Atlantic

Really enjoyed the transportation to the beach, less than 10 minutes we were there, and no sand in your vehicle, just in your shoes!
Barefoot Landing was next door, walked over almost every night.  A good place to get in our 10,000 steps.
And share ice cream.

And a little playing around too
Saw these two big kitty's, they are only 18 months old and huge.  There to raise money for a tiger preserve in the area.
Even saw a wedding on the beach one afternoon
Doesn't get better than this (that is not Pam)
I guess this is what Amazon does to the Mall, like Walmart did to the mom and pop retailers.  80% of the mall was empty and only 1 food vender left in the food court. Scary
Sad to leave Myrtle Beach, guess we are ocean people at heart.

Running From Hurricane Irma

Yep Irma is coming our way, and she is a big one.

Time to get out of Dodge, all packed up and ready to go.

First stop Cain's Creekside RV Park in Hahira, Ga.
But that was short lived as Irma changed her course and was heading directly where we were.  We left our friend who we travel up to GA with,  as he wanted to stay, but it was time for us to get out of Dodge again.  So we headed to our home park in North Carolina.
Irma dropped some rain, and wind in NC but no loss of power, so glad we came here
Silver lining was that we got to visit with our Nephew and Sister-in-Law
Linda found an Einstein Bagels and we were in heaven, finally a decent bagel.

Thee moves in the same campground, but we were finally able to relax and enjoy an after dinner drink.
Tom testing out an ergonomic chair, he found it very uncomfortable.
Next stop Myrtle Beach, lets hope hurricane
Maria stays away.

Getting Towards Labor Day

Where did the summer go?
When you are retired you think you have all the time in the world, but the time goes faster than ever.  Particularly with all the excitement in the parks, good and bad.

This is our neighbor being pulled out
Christine and Tom pulling out another neighbor
Refrigerator started this one, thankfully no one was hurt
This is us in the background, had to pull out because of flooding
Some of the good.
 Rainbows, love seeing those things
The kids stopping by for dinner
                                   Tommy

Beautiful sunsets,  and then of course, we have to have some fun

Pam shopping, Tom hold on to your wallet
One of our favorite bagel shops in Florida
and don't forget to enjoy a free cup of coffee at Ikea.
Seniors do that you know
Tool shopping, sort of
House shopping in The Villages.  Nah,  not ready to settle down yet

Don't forget to pick up your chicks at Rural King before going home.  Just kidding
Excursion to Hommassa and Crystal River

Wild Sassa Seafood, our kind of place.  Fresh fish caught in the morning, served for lunch.
And right next door is Shelly's Seafood.  Would recommend both places.
Pam's first haul from East to West Florida

Celebrated another birthday on the road, third one
This tart was the best we ever had.
Have to head home to prep the RV for a possible hurricane.  Erma is lurking out in the Atlantic Ocean, and they are not yet sure which way she is headed.
Bye for now
