We were here (Peace River Preserve, Wauchula Fl) in April, and now in June it seems like a completely different park. We realized how much we missed the first time around, also Florida summer weather has arrived. Heavy thunder showers, every day around 3:00 pm, and when it rains here it rains.
When we arrived here Piece River was close to dry. You could clearly see the bottom, less than a foot.
This was a family fossil hunting in April
You would not fossil hunt today, after a week and a half of the storms, the river is going over its banks, and the current is very strong.
Even in non-flood areas of the park it flooded. We had to move to higher ground, this is our new spot. When we first got here it was Love-bug season too, they were everywhere, glad thats over, really made a mess on the truck.
Other than these minor inconveniences, we have adapted very well to the Florida summer. Today we went biking, it was 94 degrees and it didn't phase us. Yes we broke a sweat. We went biking to Hardee County Pioneer Park in Zolfo Springs. This county park has its own campground, Wildlife Refuge Preserve and a Cracker Museum. Its a nice place to bike around.
These photos are from the wildlife refuge, where they keep wild animals that cannot be returned to their natural habitat because of injuries.
When you got a train to catch
A letter to be sent
A road to travel, or
When you gotta go, you gotta go.
You've come to the right place, the Cracker Museum.
When we were here in April, everything was dry and brown, now things are green again and growing. Something to be said for the rainy season.
Next week we will be heading up to Orlando.
